The primary purpose of the Vermilion County Museum Society is to preserve the historical heritage of Vermilion County, Illinois, including natural history, and to establish, maintain, and operate a museum to disseminate knowledge and history to the public through educational exhibits. The house Museum is housed in a home built by Dr. William Fithian in 1855. The Home is a Lincoln Site on the National Register of Historic Places. The Museum Center, opened in 2002, is located directly behind the Fithian Home.
