Adopted in 1997, the Illinois Learning Standards define what all students in all Illinois public schools should know and be able to do as a result of their elementary and secondary schooling in the core areas.

Subtitled "Participating in a summer reading program makes a difference in student achievement", this information sheet compiled by the Colorado State Library details the impact of partcipation in library summer reading programs on increased student achievement. Includes citations to relevant research.

A report comissioned by NCREL (North Central Regional Educational Laboratory). 21st Century Skills is part of NCREL's enGuage program, a web-based framework designed to help districts and schools plan and evaluate the systemwide use of educational technology.

A twice-monthly US Department of Education electronic newsletter launched in April 2002 as part of the Department's No Child Left Behind initiative.

Signed into law on Jan. 8, 2002, the Act is the most sweeping reform of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) since it was enacted in 1965. Inteded to help close the achievement gap between disadvantaged students and their peers, the Act is based on four basic principles: stronger accountability for results, increased flexibility and local control, expanded options for parents, and an emphasis on teaching methods that have been proven to work.
