Attention LTLS Members: Due to unavoidable staff schedules, there will be limited LTLS deliveries on Tuesday, October 14, and Wednesday, October 15. Route 3 (South route) will not be run on Tuesday, and Route 2 (East/Central route) will not be run on Wednesday. All delivery routes will resume on Thursday, October 16. The delivery routes have been posted on the LTLS web site at http://www.ltls.org/delivery_routes.html.

The Mid-Illinois Talking Book Center will offer the following interactive, audio/text-chat webinars: Talking Book Orientation and Update for Front Line Staff, October 20 - 1:00-1:45 p.m., October 20 - 2:00-2:45 p.m., November 3 - 1:00-1:45 p.m., November 17 - 1:00-1:45 p.m. Each session is limited to 8 participants. All that is needed to participate is a computer with Internet connection, sound card, and speakers. If you would like to attend, but these times do not work out, a separate session can be scheduled. Audio Avenue will host the “Meeting of the Minds Book Discussion Group,” an online interactive, audio/text chat book discussion group, at 7 p.m. on October 20 to discuss East of Eden by John Steinbeck and at 7 p.m. on November 19 to discuss Empire Falls by Richard Russo. The Donors Forum of Chicago Library is offering The Fundraising Journey Toolkit, a free set of resources that provides an orientation to the grantseeking process. The toolkit includes a 10-minute orientation video in VHS or DVD format, the script in English and Spanish, and supplemental materials, including a printed version of the popular Grantseekers Toolbox online tutorial. To order your free Toolkit, simply e-mail library@donorsforum.org or call (312) 578-0175 for an order form. The first kit is available free to any public library in Illinois. Additional kits are available for $50. The toolkit was made possible by an LSTA grant. The Alpha Chapter of Beta Phi Mu, the International Honor Society for Library and Information Science, will hold its annual dinner on Saturday, November 8, 2003. The featured speaker will be U of I Visiting Assistant Professor Amy Gajda, who teaches at the College of Law. Professor Gajda is the legal commentator for Illinois Public Radio and won back-to-back Illinois Associated Press Broadcasters Association awards for best editorial commentary. PLA has announced that the Workload Measures and Staffing Committee's revised and improved staffing practices survey is on the PLA website until December 15, 2003. The success of PLA's project to establish best practices in building public library staff models will depend on a large survey response rate that reflects the diversity of public libraries.
