Congratulations to the following LTLS librarians who were chosen by the State Library and the U of I Mortenson Center for International Library Programs to participate in the “2006 Thinking Outside the Borders International Library Leadership Institute” to be held November 7-10, 2006 at Allerton:  Nanette Donohue, Champaign Public Library; Jocelyn Tipton, Booth Library, Eastern Illinois University; and Mary Wilkes Towner, The Urbana Free Library.  Librarians from the Dominican Republic, Peru, Canada, Nicaragua, Mexico, Argentina, and Costa Rica will join librarians from Illinois, Texas, Maryland, California, Ohio, Oregon, Florida, Colorado, Pennsylvania, and Arizona.

The deadline for application to the ALA/FIL FREE PASS Program has been extended to September 6, 2006.  ALA and the Guadalajara International Book Fair are partnering for the ninth year to provide support for ALA members to attend the Book Fair (FIL) from November 25-29, 2006. Free passes will be awarded to 150 librarians who work in the area of Spanish language acquisitions. The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) has announced over $30,000 worth of grants and awards available to YALSA members.  The application deadline is December 1, 2006.  For more information, go to

Marshall Public Library invites anyone who schedules children’s programs to attend a variety “Showcase Event” presented by FamilyTime Entertainment from Indianapolis.  The event will be held at the library on September 28, 2006 at 1 p.m. and also at 1:40 p.m.  Contact Library Director Nancy Claypool at 217-826-2535 for details.

Reaching Forward South will present “Support Staff of the Year Awards” to two Illinois library support staff at their annual conference on September 29, 2006 in Springfield. Do you know of a support staff employee that is deserving of this award? The deadline has been extended to September 11, 2006. 2006 - 324 Lost Periodical: Danville Public Library sent two issues of the serial Homeschooling Today (ISSN 1073-2217) on May 9, 2006. The 2 issues (vol. 15, issues 1 and 2) did not arrive at LTLS CC. If any library received these two issues by mistake, please return to LTLS CC (Attention: Maria). Thank you for your cooperation.
