| 2004 - 139 | The UIUC Library and the University of Illinois Press are collaborating on a year long series of events as part of the ARL/AAUP "2004: Year of the University Press" (http://www.aaupnet.org/arlaaup/). "Life Cycle of the Book" will be presented on April 2, 2004, 12 p.m., at 126 Graduate School of Library and Information Science Building, 501 E. Daniel Street, Champaign. A panel discussion featuring staff of the University of Illinois Press will provide insiders' views on how a book moves from an idea or a manuscript to print on pages in the hands of a reader. On April 5, 2004, 12 p.m., in Room 160 English Building, 608 S. Wright Street, Urbana, Professor William Maxwell of the English Department will speak on his newly published Complete Poems of Claude McKay. He will describe his "adventures researching and, especially, winning copyright clearance for the McKay poems" and will also read from the poems. | 2004 - 141 | Rebecca Caudill Young Reader’s Award Packet Creation Workshop: Join fellow librarians and teachers to create a packet of information and activities to accompany the 20 books selected for the 2005 Rebecca Caudill Award. As a participant you will help to prepare a book summary, discussion questions, activities, reading recommendation, book talk, list of related materials, and web sites for each book on the list. Each participant is assigned particular books to read and be responsible for. The event will take place at the Helen Matthes Library in Effingham on June 23, 2004 (8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.). Sponsored by the Illinois School Library Media Association (ISLMA), the award will be given annually to the author of the book voted as most outstanding by participating students in grades nine through twelve.
