| 2006 - 14 | Lost Books: Trenton Public Library in the Shawnee Library System has been missing a box of 17 hardback large print books since mid summer. They were en route to Caseyville in the Lewis and Clark Library System. The library would appreciate help in trying to locate them. | 2006 - 15 | The deadline to apply for Cataloging Boot Camp 2006 has been extended to February 1, 2006. This event will be held May 22-26, 2006 and is made possible by an LSTA grant received by the Illinois Online Users Group (IOUG), the Statewide Cataloging Standards Committee, Lewis and Clark Library System, Shawnee Library System, and Rolling Prairie Library System. The session will enable you to become an IOUG copy cataloging trainer. Grant funding will pay hotel and per diem for the participants. | 2006 - 17 | Applications are being accepted for the Illinois State Library's 12th Annual Institute for School and Public Librarians. This week of library related educational activities will be June 11-16, 2006 on the campus of Bradley University in Peoria. Attendees are immersed into a library curriculum that focuses on basic skills and knowledge needed by school and public librarians, such as reference, collection development, working with people, technology issues, grants, and more. The only cost incurred by participants is a $50 registration fee. Apply by March 24, 2006. | 2006 - 20 | Illinois Library Day is Wednesday, March 1, 2006, in Springfield. You are invited to join hundreds of library supporters to stand united and send a strong message to our elected officials about the value of Illinois libraries. Since Library Day comes just three weeks before the Illinois primary election, the theme this year is "I Love Libraries, And I Vote!" Participants will march en masse--weather permitting--from the new Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in downtown Springfield to a rally at the Lincoln statue on the east side of the State Capitol building carrying signs, umbrellas, and banners. Watch for details about how to register.

| 2006 - 21 | National Library Legislative Day is May 2, 2006 in Washington, D.C. A registration form will appear in the February 2006 ILA Reporter. It is once again extremely important for library activists to take the opportunity to make sure their voices are heard and to advocate for increased library funding. ILA has reserved a room block at the Capitol Hill Suites, 200 C St., SW, Washington, DC 20003; phone: 888-627-7811; $175 single rate; $195 double rate; 14.5% sales tax not included. When making reservations, mention the Illinois Library Association. For further information on the issues and briefing session, contact the American Library Association at 800-941-8478. Since the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association is scheduled for the same time period, make your reservations prior to the cut-off date of March 31, 2006.

| 2006 - 22 | March 1, 2006 is the deadline for applying for Partnership for a Nation of Learners Community Collaboration grants. The program's goal is to build and strengthen working relationships among libraries, museums, and public broadcasting licensees. | 2006 - 23 | The Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators will present a picture book workshop called “What Went Right?” with Sandy Asher, nationally known teacher and the author of Too Many Frogs! The workshop will explore picture book writing technique and marketability and will be held on February 25, 2006 at 9 a.m. and on February 26 at 3 p.m. at the Eastland Suites in Urbana. The registration deadline is January 27.
