Horizon Searching     List of Categories

  1. Keyword searching returns matches relating to the Super Bowl, no matter what keyword search term was entered.

  2. There seem to be some mapping problems--for example, subtitles cause books with same record to come up in widely different places in catalog.

  3. Why can't I limit basic searches to the library where patrons are searching?

  4. In 'Related Works' search, should we be able to go directly to the related author or subject; there is an unnecessary screen in the process.

  5. Why, when searching by barcode, does the cursor just goes to the top copy, not the actual copy that matches the barcode?

  6. Highlight items owned at library when searching all holdings.

  1. Keyword searching returns matches relating to the Super Bowl, no matter what keyword search term was entered.

This is a symptom that the indexes need rebuilding. Please notify the Automation Team as soon as this becomes apparent.

  2. There seem to be some mapping problems--for example, subtitles cause books with same record to come up in widely different places in catalog.

We have indexed all 'subtitles' so they can be searched in the title index. This means that if a recording has 20 songs on it, all songs may be searched in the title index. It's possible that a title search would have '20' titles listed and all of them would come from the same recording.

  3. Why can't I limit basic searches to the library where patrons are searching?

In the OPAC, there are basically two kinds of searches - list searches and keyword searches. Any kind of keyword search can be limited to the location. However, list searches can't at this time. List searches basically go to a 'canned' list of all titles in the catalog.

  4. In 'Related Works' search, should we be able to go directly to the related author or subject; there is an unnecessary screen in the process.

Horizon does not have hot links to related works; rather a secondary window opens in which you can pick and choose which authors, subjects, etc. you wish to create a new title list from.

  5. Why, when searching by barcode, does the cursor just goes to the top copy, not the actual copy that matches the barcode?

Although the cursor goes to the top copy, the black arrow points to the matching barcode in the list (you may have to scroll down the list to see it.)

  6. Highlight items owned at library when searching all holdings.

When you restrict a search to your library (F2, choose Restrict, choose your Location), your library's items are highlighted (bold). You must restrict first for this to happen.
