Horizon General List of Categories

- I can't tell which patrons have the items that are status of lost or claims returned.
- Horizon doesn't seem to give confirmation as a final step in deleting records.
- Is there any way to make merging records less time-consuming? It is frustrating to have to clear the screen of all previous activity.
- Item Editor is at times very confusing. We think that you should be able to compile a list as simply and with as many options as an Administrative Report, but then perform an edit or change on that entire list (e.g. items of a specific itype or collection code during a specific period of time). We also think that you should be able to batch change the stauts of a created Append list without having to highlight the entire list. Also, we can't seem to delete individual items for a created group or print the group.
- I don't see where Horizon divides payments up between fines and lost items. We need to track these separately in our financial accounts.
- It seems that it might be easier to toggle between screens if there was a back arrow feature in Horizon. Is there anything that I can do to make toggling easier?
- We would like to hold certain report and/or searching structures as a default
- We would like the borrower's name to appear on the printouts of their blocks.
- Why is Horizon only able to run on Windows 2000 or Windows XP??? Since it was written in Java, shouldn't they be able to tweak it so other operating systems can handle the program? Specifically, I would like to be able to switch to Lynux rather than Windows. It supports everything we need to function except Horizon, and would be a great savings financially.
- Program text change. Don't say "enter PIN". Change to "Enter last 4 digits of home telephone number".

This available in Create Item Report.

Horizon doesn't seem to give confirmation as a final step in deleting records.
When individually deleting an item in the copy/item list, Horizon will ask if it is OK to proceed. This also happens when more than one item is selected.
In the batch deletion window, Horizon does confirm that you are about to delete the list.
In deleting a MARC record, Horizon asks if you are sure you wish to delete the record.

Using the "Workbook" view allows you to toggle back and forth between windows.

We also think that you should be able to batch change the stauts of a created Append list without having to highlight the entire list. In the Group Editor Menu you can pick and choose which items will be changed without highlighting the entire list. Because of this functionality, you must select the entire list if all items should be changed.
Using Ctrl-A, (a standard Windows shortcut), quickly selects the entire list.
In Horizon, if you create an archived list, you can't remove items. This has been reported to Dynix.
In Horizon, if you create a group or an archived list, you can send the list to the printer.
In Horizon, if you want you can append to your group or archive by starting the compound search screen and checking the append list box after you have retrieved your group. Any search performed thereafter will append the results to that group.

There is a cash management report that divides the funds between 'lost' and 'fines' along with other categories.

Use of the 'workbook' view provides tabs at the bottom of the screen indicating all windows that are open. Clicking on the tabs changes from window to window.

We would like to hold certain report and/or searching structures as a default
This is a function of customization and has not been implemented.

We would like the borrower's name to appear on the printouts of their blocks.
The ability to print screens is a Windows operating system issue and not a Horizon issue, though we have asked for this as an enhancement. An option is to use screen capture software to print a screen from Horizon. There are tons of freeware or shareware printscreen utilities out there that only requires downloading and installing and then a library would be able to print any screen any time. Here is the website for a free fully functional, feature laden print screen utility called PrintKey 2000
This download would allow any librarian the ability to print any screen from any software program, including Horizon Client. This download will be in a "zip" format so you must have a zip utility installed in order to extract the files.

Horizon 7.3 is propriety software and its variations were written for the Windows operating system and therefore require it.

Program text change. Don't say "enter PIN". Change to "Enter last 4 digits of home telephone number".
Horizon does not automatically use the last 4 digits of the home telephone number to verify a patron's access to their information and requests. It uses a field called 'pin'. The data in this field is determined by the library that issues the patron's card.
