I would like to be able to delete groups of items. Is this possible?
With the upgrade to Horizon 7.3.2, there is now the ability for those with Cataloging Level 3 and 4 security to delete groups of items. The access to this is provided under the Cataloging menu, choose Item Record>Batch Item Delete, then use the search screen to search for items in a particular collection, or items with a particular status, that belong to your library. You can also create a batch by appending barcodes and creating a group. Once the group is selected or created, choose Delete to batch delete the items. Remember to only delete items that belong to your library.
Batch item delete can be used for one or more items, simply by scanning in the individual barcode, selecting the items to be deleted, and choosing 'delete'. When the batch item delete options window appears, make sure the 'delete bib' option is checked before deleting all records. The bib will automatically be deleted through this process if yours is the last copy.

What is the policy on Fast Adds? We've noticed a few of them on the database lately, and we were wondering if we'll be seeing more of this.
Fast adds (temporary records) are set to automatically be deleted when the item is checked in. One of these bib #s belongs to an item that is checked out. The other bib number is a 'deleted' bib. 'Deleted' bibs are currently retained in a separate file and are only accessible by doing a bib # search. The deleted bib file is necessary so we can send deleted holdings/bib information to OCLC.

How do you 'reassign' a barcode?
If you want to change the barcode just bring up the item record and edit the barcode field by changing to the new one.

Can I use Macros with Horizon to cut down on data entry?
Other Horizon sites suggest that you download the free macro utility written by Jim Taylor, JTAutoEntry. You can get it at http://www.jtdata.com. By using the "mini mac" feature you can create up to 100 macros.

When I add a new item and give it an in processing" status, will it change after 3 business days or not?
This does not automatically happen. You will need to check the item in to get rid of the 'in processing' status. Another possibility is to use the 'li' (local in) status that displays as 'In' in the pac. However, checking the item in is the best way to pop holds when an item is added to the collection.

If I delete my last copy of an item and no other library has items attached to this title, should I delete the bib record?
If you are certain no other library has copies attached to the record, you should follow this two-step process. 1. Delete the holding by finding the title and use F10 to send the item to the Copy/Item List, then choose the File>Delete Record option to delete your library's item record. 2. Delete the bibliographic record and use F10 to send the title to the Marc Editor, then choose the File>Delete Record option to delete the bibliographic record.
