13-DIGIT ISBN REQUIRES HORIZON UPGRADE

The move to 13-digit ISBN numbers requires upgrades to both Horizon and LINCPac. This has been scheduled for January 9, 2007 and will require several hours of downtime. More information about the actual downtime will be posted as details become available.

This upgrade also means that each Horizon staff workstation, in all LINC libraries, must be upgraded as well. We will send out the Horizon 7.3.4 CD-ROM and installation instructions to each LINC library by the end of November. Your upgrade can be pre-installed before the January 9 date but should not be used until the server upgrade has been finished on January 9.

As a result of the upgrade, Horizon will have the following enhancements:
  • The ISBN index (in both Horizon and LINCPac) will search for both 10 &13 digit numbers.
  • Syndetics will be able to display enhanced content in LINCPac (cover art, reviews, table of contents) for any item with a 13 digit ISBN.
  • The Edifact file format will be modified to allow for a way to send 13-digit ISBN’s to vendors.
  • Printing of purchase orders will be modified to allow for 13 digits.
