2005 - 104 HORIZON 7.4/LINCPAC 4.0 UPGRADE POSTPONED, SYBASE UPGRADE ONLY 8/18

Because of an announcement by the LINC automation vendor, SirsiDynix, on August 10, the Horizon 7.4 and LINCPac 4.0 upgrade scheduled for August 18 & 19 has been postponed. There have been several major software bugs identified by the company and they have suspended these upgrades until the problems can be resolved.

We will proceed with the planned version upgrade to Sybase, the database software, on the LTLS Horizon server only. This has been scheduled for early Thursday morning, August 18. Both Horizon and LINCPac will be unavailable early Thursday morning until the upgrade is finished so libraries should plan accordingly. Information about the progress of the Sybase upgrade will be posted on the Online Services Status Screen (http://www.lincolntrail.info/systemstatus.html).

SirsiDynix support is anticipating a downtime of 1-3 hours for the Sybase upgrade. Libraries may wish to use PC Reliance during this downtime period and should review the PC Reliance manual and procedures before using this product. Also, searching for materials should be directed to WorldCat via FirstSearch, selecting Illinois Catalog as the database (SILC) for searching. The default limit is ‘East Central Illinois’ but Advanced Searching allows you to limit by your OCLC code. This will allow you to search for items in your library. However, all shelf status links back to the LINC catalog will not function during the downtime period for LINCPac.

With just a Sybase upgrade, there will be no ensuing upgrade to either Horizon 7.4 or LINCPac 4.0, so the Sybase upgrade will have no impact on the software that you use. You will continue to use the Horizon 7.3.2 icon after the Sybase upgrade is finished on Thursday morning. If you have not yet installed the Horizon 7.4 software, it is not necessary to do so at this time. However, please retain the CD and instructions sheet because it will be required in the next few months.

We do not have a timeframe for the rescheduling of the upgrade to Horizon 7.4 and LINCPac 4.0. We will announce this as soon as the information becomes available from SirsiDynix.

2005 - 105 LINC POLICY COUNCIL NOMINEES
The LINC Directors Group Nominating Committee posted 6 candidates for LINC Policy Council, at http://www.ltls.org/linccommittees/lpc/lpcmembers/LPCslate2005.html. The LINC Bylaws state that candidates will be posted for two weeks before a ballot is sent to all LINC Directors Group members.

2005 - 106 OVERDRIVE/MEDIA MALL UPDATE

The Overdrive project is now being called Media Mall and has a preliminary web site that is still in development. There is a collection development committee that is selecting e-books and downloadable audiobooks for the ‘opening day’ collection. There is also a draft circulation policy document that is being developed. We will post these documents under LINC Resources on the Technology Services page.

Overdrive is also offering preliminary web-based training for librarians who will need to teach patrons how to access these resources. LTLS will also offer additional training beginning in September. Here is the schedule for the web-based training offered by Overdrive:

•Wednesday, August 24, 10am-11:30am
•Wednesday, August 24, 2pm-3:30pm
•Tuesday, August 30, 10am-11:30am

If you would like to sign up for the Overdrive web-based training sessions, please email: pboze@lincolntrail.info with the session you would like to attend. Their training utilizes a product called ReadyTalk for the web course and a telephone for the call-in portion. Information on accessing the classes will be sent to those who sign up. The schedule for the LTLS Media Mall/Overdrive classes will be announced soon.

2005 - 107 WEBREPORTER ILL LENDING/BORROWING REPORTS

We’ve tweaked a WebReporter report to allow you to get statistics for interlibrary loan lending and borrowing. Login to WebReporter>Top 11>Circulation Stats by Collection/Istat Report. For the number of items you loaned to other libraries, do this:

1) Select the year
2) Select the month
3) Enter xxx* (xxx = your 3-letter agency code, followed by an *) in the search code box, and click on the search icon. This will bring back all of your collection/istat codes. Move all of these to the box on the right.
4) Select all locations but your own (move all but your own to box on the right).
Execute the report. This report will report back everything that belonged to you but circulated at other libraries. You will then go to each available location in the drop down box and tally the totals. This report takes awhile to run, so either run it off hours or be patient.

For the number of items from other libraries that you loaned at your location, do this:

1) Select the year
2) Select the month
3) Leave collection/istat field blank
4) Select only your location
Execute the report. When the results come back, go to the last page to get the total, then scroll back to your collections and subtract the circ numbers of your collections from the total.

This procedure will then give you a statistic for everything that circed at your library that did not belong to your library.

Remember that this report is for LINC activity only. It does not include any OCLC lending/borrowing, any photocopy requests, or other ILL activity that you do outside of LINC.
