Project Overview

Pat Boze gave background information on the purpose of the project,  the basic functionality of the serials module, what we plan to accomplish with this project, and a general timeline for when the accomplishments would be done.

Serials Subsystem

Merdy Smith presented an overview of the Serials Subsystem and what decisions libraries need to make to complete its configuration.  There may also need to be additional collection codes, item loan types, and serials module security access set up for library staff.

Once this initial configuration information is returned to LTLS, libraries need to provide information on each of their serials vendors and each of their serials subscriptions.    Merdy passed out paper forms to help libraries collect this information and explained what is needed.

Another activity that must be completed is for libraries to search LINC to determine if their serials records are already cataloged – if not, the serial must be sent to the LTLS cataloging center for cataloging.  Merdy asked that these be sent to her attention.

Responsibilities

The group discussed the various activities for the project and who is responsible for what.

Individual libraries will:

•Complete the configuration information

•Check their serials to make sure the record is in LINC and send to Cataloging Center if not

•Complete vendor and serial forms

•Send staff to serials training

•Perform serials updates on an ongoing basis after completion of the project.

LTLS will:

•Add new serials bibliographic records to LINC

•Add vendor records

•Create serials copy records for individual subscriptions for each library

•Create publication patterns for each library’s serial titles

•Train library staff in all aspects of the serials module.
