Alice Cisna called the meeting to order at 9:35. Alice asked if there were any changes to the agenda. Jan asked that if time allows there be a discussion of the purpose of LPC. The minutes for the July 25, 2007 meeting were approved. Vanessa Whippo was introduced as the new head of the LINC Cataloging Center.

The first item on the agenda was final discussion of the recommended changes made to the LINC Circulation Policies by the committee. Upon motion by Scott, second by Jan, a motion was made to approve the policies as presented. This passed unanimously. However, LPC members expressed continued interest in more uniform circulation periods, fine rates, etc. among libraries. A question was directed to Phill Cohee, chair of the committee, asking if the committee could reconvene and further discuss this. Phill indicated he would be willing to take this back to the committee. After further discussion, a motion was made by Susan, second by Lou, to have the committee continue to discuss standardized loan periods and fines and report to LPC by the January meeting. This motion also passed.

Phill Cohee, chair of the LINC Circulation Policies subcommittee, Pat, and Scott led a discussion of the proposed revisions to the existing LINC Circulation Policies. Several changes in wording and format were suggested. A motion was made to accept the policy revisions.

General discussion about the Symposium followed. Several were impressed by the Georgia PINES model – a card for everyone, all the rules the same. Although the conference was technical, it was also scaled back for those that aren’t technical. It was exciting to learn about the possibilities of open source software. The vendor perspective was very interesting to hear, and it’s interesting to think about the differences between what librarians want in an online catalog versus what users want.

Pat demonstrated both WorldCat Local, which came live for 4 LTLS libraries on October 15, and Library Thing, added to the web catalog to enhance content and create additional discovery.

A meeting date of January 23, 2008, 9:30 am, LTLS, was set for the next LPC meeting.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:30.
