On Dynix Classic, the last four digits of a patron's phone number has been used as the equivalent of a 'PIN' number. Patrons use their barcode and the last four digits of their phone number for placing requests and viewing their patron information. Many patrons do not have home phone numbers and are therefore not able to place requests or view their information.
In Horizon, instead of the phone number, the patron (borrower) PIN number field will be utilized for placing requests and viewing their information. Dynix will run a program that will automatically create each patron (borrower) PIN number by using the last four digits of the patronšs barcode.
On Horizon, the patron (borrower) PIN number field will be implemented so borrowers can access their information using their barcode and PIN number.
