HORIZON SECURITY SUMMARY

We are setting up Horizon security to emulate Dynix security as closely as possible. However, Horizon security utilizes four levels in setting up users whereas Dynix only uses two. Also, many of the definitions of functionality are not similar in the two products.

This initial setup will allow users to begin using the system on April 8. It will be necessary for a committee to work with LTLS staff on fine-tuning Horizon security after we become more familiar with the system.

On Day 1

User logins on Horizon will remain the same as on Dynix (ex: pboze)

User passwords on Horizon will be changed to a random password. This password will be set to expire every 90 days. A list of the user logins/random passwords will be sent to LINC directors by March 31.

Existing Dynix functional passwords will be used as the individual userπs Horizon passkey. The passkey works differently in Horizon. The system only prompts for a passkey when the user does not have clearance to do the activity they are trying to do. A higher-level staff member must then input their passkey to allow the lower-level staff member to proceed.

Each library staff member will be assigned to one or a combination of Horizon templates, depending on their current LINC security form.
