ILDS, the Intersystem
Library Delivery Service, connects the delivery services
of the cooperative library systems in Illinois, the Illinois
State Library, and the CARLI governing and associate member libraries
(Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois--includes
the University of Illinois, Eastern Illinois University, Parkland
College, and Danville Area Community College and Lakeview College of Nursing). This statewide delivery
service facilitates resource sharing among more than 3,000 ILLINET
member libraries. ILDS is coordinated by CARLI and financed in
part by the Illinois State Library.
Who can use the ILDS Service?
Lincoln Trail Libraries
System members sending or returning interlibrary loan materials directly
to out-of-system ILLINET libraries.
How to use the ILDS Service
Items for
ILDS delivery must have ILDS labels with the ILDS stop or
system affiliation and the final
destination clearly marked on the label. Information on system
affiliation for Illinois libraries can be found at ELI (Every Library
in Illinois) http://www.eliillinois.org/.
The ILDS
delivery label is available as a printable pdf file for libraries
needing additional supplies. A list of the 3-letter codes
and agency names of the ILDS direct stops is available at
http://www.illinoisdelivers.net/memlist.html.
Contacts
All inquiries, questions, or problems about the delivery system should
be e-mailed to delivery@lincolntrail.info.
Responsibility
Libraries are responsible
for correctly labeling materials that are being sent or returned
directly to non-LTLS ILLINET libraries, using ILDS routing tags when
applicable.
LTLS and ILDS staff coordinate
statewide delivery pickups, schedules, and record keeping.
Limitations
Individually addressed first-class
letters should not be routed via ILDS. Photocopied resource-sharing
library articles should be labeled clearly in an envelope with an ILDS
label attached.
ILDS labels can be used only
for in-state deliveries. Out-of-state materials must be returned
via U.S. mail or other delivery services such as UPS or Fed Ex.
