Round robin of
reports
Lincoln Trail Libraries
System: Merdy reported that
Lincoln Trail has added preview forms for DVDs and videos to the LTLS
website. A nomination form for
websites for cataloging in LINC and FAQs regarding the process have also been
added. The Database Standards
Committee was formed to review nominations for Local Subject Headings and
determine recommendations for other database standards. Members of the committee are Mary
Towner, Karen Hackman, Holly Nordheden, Lucy Webb, and Joanne Kelly, with Mary
Bissey as LINC Policy Council liaison, and Merdy Smith, LTLS staff
contact.
Charleston: Nothing new to report from Nancy.
DACC: Holly reported that they DACC will be
celebrating the anniversary of moving in May. The library is currently fully staffed. Holly will begin working on sound
recordings soon, since attending the Illinois State Library’s training
workshop on cataloging sound recordings.
URN: Howard reported they will soon be
getting rid of their shelf-list.
Ground breaking
for the new library will
possibly be in the fall.
Merdy distributed a list of common errors found in
bibliographic records added to LINC in January 2002. Some of the errors were
incorrect punctuation, language code different from title, missing sub-fields
in 260, duplicate ISBNs, and conflicting information in fixed fields and
variable fields. In February Merdy
began running the MARC Report on LINC records to find such errors.
Merdy asked if there was
any interest in cataloging workshops for support staff. Holly said she had one staff person who
would attend basic cataloging workshops (e.g., introduction to MARC),
preferably in the summer. Merdy
will further investigate the possibilities.
Merdy read a message
received from epixtech regarding the fact that when editing records in Cat for
Windows, the 007 field changes even though that was not the field that was
being edited. Epixtech said it was
a bug in Cat for Windows, and recommended that records not be edited in Cat for
Windows.
Merdy reported that a
new edition (3rd) of Bibliographic Formats & Standards will be available in
May.
Holly asked if
supplements to a serials title could be checked in on the same bib record, even
though they had separate volume numbering. Merdy said they could be checked in (as supplements) on the
same record. Holly also asked what
she should send to Merdy for serial title changes that were not caught at
checkin. Merdy said she should
send information regarding the old title and the new title; sending the
bibliographic record numbers or print outs of these is fine.
The next meeting will be
held October 9, 2002 , possibly at DACC.
The meeting was
adjourned at 10:00 a.m.
