            Due to the weather travel advisory, I will not make the meeting this evening. I am submitting with written report for your information.  Happy wishes for Spring!

 

General Report from the Illinois State Library:

 

 

       Don OíNeil from the University of Illinois- Springfield will head the Illinois State Library Strategic Plan Development. 

       Sharon Wiseman will head up the training for Rural Sustainability Grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for ISL.  Letters and information about training has gone out soon to system directors and 473 libraries.

       Susan Singleton, new director of CARLI, will meet with ISL staff March 23, 2006 to discuss collaboration and participation.

       IPLAR- The Illinois Public Library Annual Report for 2005-2006 has been released on the IPLAR page at http://Irc.lis.uiuc.edu/IPLAR/input Contact Ron Winner for more information Reports is due fiscal year or September 1 for district libraries to regional library systems and ISL

 

2006 Synergy: Library Leadership Initiative sponsored by the State Library and the Illinois Library Association. Synergy is the statewide library community's proactive movement to recruit and nurture future Illinois library leaders.  30 librarians have been selected to participate in the coming session March 28-30 at Starved Rock in Utica, IL.

The IDP staff, area library and diversity directors and cultural agencies will partner to present a series of Black History Month Program in February 2006 in Springfield and Chatham libraries. Over 1200 people attend the 14 program events.

Vandella Brown, IDP Manager, will appear on Soaring to Excellence: Immigrants Populations: A Prototype for Diversity on April 7.

Workshop Training

Small Public Library Management Institute June 4-9. Fifty participants will be selected to attend with the intent of maintaining both geographic distribution and some variation in library size. Applications should be received on or before Friday, March 24th, 2006 by mail or fax. Attendees will be notified of their selection in early April.

Library Grants:

            GENERAL GRANT PROCESS

1.     A Letter of Intent is required of every applicant. The deadline for the Letter of Intent must be postmarked or faxed no later than April 19, 2006 or hand delivered to the Illinois State Library by 4:30 pm on April 19, 2006.

2.     The full application must be postmarked no later than May 19, 2006; or hand delivered to the Illinois State Library by 4:30 pm on May 19, 2006.

3.     Funded grants will begin activities on October 1, 2006 and end on June 30, 2007.

4.     All grant funds must be encumbered or expended from October 1, 2006 to June 30, 2007 with encumbered funds spent by August 15, 2007.

5.     Applications must demonstrate outcomes based on patron or community need.

6.     Applications must be programmatic in nature to provide services or activities for the end users.

7.     Library agencies are limited to one application, as either the applicant or a participant, under each grant offering.
