and information about training has gone out soon to system directors and 473
libraries.

2006 Synergy: Library
Leadership Initiative sponsored by the State Library and the Illinois Library
Association. Synergy is the statewide library community's proactive movement to
recruit and nurture future Illinois library leaders. 30 librarians have been selected to participate in the
coming session March 28-30 at Starved Rock in Utica, IL.
The IDP staff, area library
and diversity directors and cultural agencies will partner to present a series
of Black History Month Program in February 2006 in Springfield and Chatham
libraries. Over 1200 people attend the 14 program events.

Small Public
Library Management Institute June 4-9.
Fifty participants will be selected to attend with the intent of maintaining
both geographic distribution and some variation in library size. Applications
should be received on or before Friday, March 24th, 2006 by mail or fax.
Attendees will be notified of their selection in early April.

Library Grants:
GENERAL GRANT PROCESS
1.
A
Letter of Intent is required of every applicant. The
deadline for the Letter of Intent must be postmarked or faxed no later than April 19, 2006 or hand delivered to
the Illinois State Library by 4:30 pm on April 19, 2006.
2.
The full
application must be postmarked no later than May 19, 2006; or hand delivered to the Illinois State
Library by 4:30 pm on May 19, 2006.
3.
Funded
grants will begin activities on October 1, 2006 and end on June 30, 2007.
4.
All grant
funds must be encumbered or expended from October 1, 2006 to June 30, 2007 with
encumbered funds spent by August 15, 2007.
5.
Applications
must demonstrate outcomes based on patron or community need.
6.
Applications
must be programmatic in nature to provide services or activities for the end
users.
7.
Library
agencies are limited to one application, as either the applicant or a
participant, under each grant offering.
