Statewide Illinois Library Catalog (SILC)

 

Donna Schaal and Jan Ison attended a conference call with the Illinois State Library regarding the Statewide Illinois Library Catalog (SILC) that will be launched to all ILLINET libraries in August.  SILC is a customized, statewide union catalog that combines all the state¹s bibliographic records into a single, searchable entity.  The meeting discussed promotional materials, training aspects, and when the product would be available to ILLINET members.

 

Continuing Education

Donna Schaal and Amy Weber finalized the continuing education calendar for FY2005, and it was prepared for printing.  The calendar of events is scheduled to go out the first week of August along with the pricing structure for CLaSS and LINC.  There will be 35 events and several LINC offerings.  The CLaSS and LINC pricing structures will not very largely from FY2004.

 

Grant Proposals

Pat Boze, Jan Ison, Donna Schaal, Joe Sciacca, Merdy Smith, and Amy Weber prepared two LSTA grant proposals.  Merdy Smith submitted a digitization grant and the others submitted a ³Libraries Leading the Way² grant.  The digitization grant focuses on special collections of audiotapes and diaries held by the Monticello library.  The ³Libraries Leading the Way² grant is designed to address issues related to increasing minority populations in rural areas around East Central Illinois.  The project would provide training and program development incentives to rural libraries.  Consultants worked on building member support and planning and writing the applications.

 

ISL Budget Presentation

 

Carolyn Adkins, Jan Ison, Pat Boze and Joe Sciacca met with staff from the Illinois State Library to present the LTLS system area and per capita grant application for FY2005.  The LTLS presentation was one of 9 presentations made by each of the regional library systems.

 

ILA Orientation

Jan Ison, Amy Weber and Joe Sciacca participated in the Illinois Library Association's Orientation Program on July 22.  ILA President Allen Lanham organized the event to energize the leaders and members of ILA's forums and committees for the coming year.  The program consisted of presentations on ILA initiatives, legislative activities and committee meetings.  Jan Ison serves on the Nominating Committee, Amy Weber serves on the Awards Committee, and Joe Sciacca serves on the Conference Committee and as Chair of the Best Practices Committee.

 

Bookmarket at the Square

 

LTLS consultants Amy Weber and Joe Sciacca assisted in the planning for the upcoming Bookmarket on the Square event scheduled for August 28 at Lincoln Square Mall in Urbana.  The event is cosponsored by four area bookstores including Follets, Illini Union Bookstore, Jane Addams Book Shop and Mayhaven Publishing as well as LTLS and four area libraries including Champaign Public, Urbana Free, Parkland College Library, the University of Illinois Library.  LTLS is hosting the web site for the event at http://www.lincolntrail.info/bookmarket, and will enter a team in the Adult Spelling Bee!
