- Literary societies and library associations were active in Bement's early
years. In 1866, an association was formed, with $134 being available for
the purchase of books. The Bement Literary and Library Association was
incorporated in 1877. The Bement Women's Club members acted as librarians
and circulated books. A tax proposal for a free township library carried
in 1936. In 1989 the library moved into a new 3800 sq. ft. facility. The
new library provides room to expand, has a meeting room and is handicapped
accessible.
